Bournemouth Air Festival

The bank holiday weekend in August saw the inaugural More Bus Bournemouth Air festival taking place. The event attracted over 750,000 people into the town over the four days of the festival, which featured the world-famous Red Arrows of the RAF, the Black Cats Helicopter Team, the Team Guinot Wing Walkers, the Eurofighter and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight as well as many other international crews and aircraft. Even the Bournemouth weather played its part in making sure there was sunshine for the majority of the event.

Cllr. Ian Newport watched the event from the West Cliff. Ian later told The Village “The festival has been a tremendous success for the town. We should all be grateful to the event organizers, the sponsors, the participants, the Police and all the volunteers who helped. Thanks should also go to the Council staff and councillors
such as John who were determined to bring the event to Bournemouth”. Ian added that he still hoped to see the Red Arrows flying at the 2012 Olympics saying “they make you feel proud of Britain”.

The event saw a very low number of incidents requiring Police attendance, and succeeded in bringing families into the town centre in the evenings as the festivities continued. Cllr. Barry Goldbart welcomed the result, “ The Council is most concerned about anti-social behaviour in the town centre which has in the past spread to the West Cliff. It is great to see that families are coming back to Bournemouth and enjoying what the town has to offer.
